I don't know for sure, but I had always thought that it was because there would
be no certain way to keep non-HAMs out... It would end up to be a pain for the
Sysop to do such a thing for all of the HAMs on the internet that would want
access...

That pretty much says it. Am making a home brew mic, and since I got no
response on rec.radio.amateur.homebrew, I'll try the guys that hook up
TNC's to these rigs. I imagine it is a stereo plug that goes in the top,
but where is PTT ground etc??
